The Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) of Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital Tainan Branch has its beginning in the 1990’s and has remained a comprehensive health care provider in Tainan. Our professional team workers compose of two doctors, five physical therapists, one physical therapy assistant, two occupational therapists, one occupational therapy assistant and one speech therapist. We offer quality medical care and rehabilitation for patients with various disabilities. Over the past twenty years, we have developed treatment programs in specialties such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, musculoskeletal, return to work, chronic pain, and sports injury. We also provide consultation and diagnostic services with a variety of technologic examinations. Each patient here is evaluated by a physiatrist, who then works with the referring physician and the rehabilitation team to design and implement individualized plan of care. The evaluation includes functional assessment, evaluation for adaptive equipment, contracture prevention, skin management, bowel/bladder education and training, and prognosis of ultimate outcome. With the participation of the patients and their family, our physicians and therapists work as a team to assist those living with disabilities to achieve functional independence and a better quality of life.

    Occupational Therapy Services

Occupational therapy in our Section provides designed purposeful activities for the neurological patient. The occupational therapist designs personal-made functional activities for every patient according to the occupational evaluations. With these activities, the patients can regain their functional capacity deprived from their disease. They can also obtain other methods to substitute their lost function. Via the occupational treatment, we expect the patients to reduce their dysfunction and reaccommodate themselves to the family and the society.
